                               Latest Technology

                              Elio Motors

It starts with a vision of what a vehicle should have…what it MUST have. Amazing fuel efficiency… uncompromised safety…high quality…and designed and manufactured in the USA. How’d we fit all that into one revolutionary vehicle?

There is no one simple answer. We looked at everything - from multi-milion dollar savings from how we are organized, down to $17 per vehicle in how we designed our hood latch.
some specific features than make its cheaper

The big stuff, like:
  • Re-engineering proven technology for maximum engine efficiency.
  • Employing the lightest and strongest materials into a bodyframe designed to keep the excess factor to absolute zero.
 The small stuff, like:
  • Strategic placement of the hood latches, and even redesigning the washer fluid bottle. Yes, the washer fluid bottle.
Building a low-cost vehicle doesn’t come from one single solution. For Elio Motors, it is a variety of engineering and business decisions, both big and small, that add up to significant cost savings.
Less “Stuff” = Less Cost
  • Three wheels cost less than four. Two seats cost less than five. One door is less than two or four…and so on.
  • The vehicle weighs just 1,228 pounds (most entry-level vehicles weigh approximately 2,400 lbs)
  • 1,228 pounds of material costs less than 2,400 pounds of material.
Nothing is Too Small for Engineering Innovation
A traditional hood opens forward, requiring two latches. If the first latch fails, the second latch keeps the hood from popping up and blocking the driver’s sight line. But, a second latch means more equipment and adds more than $20.00 to vehicle cost. On an Elio, the hood is engineered to open the other way. If the latch fails, the wind will blow the hood down rather than up, so a redundant latch is not required. The Elio latch costs just $3.00. Hundreds of these cost-saving designs add up to … or more accurately, it adds down… to $6.800.

Simple physics. Wind drag has a negative impact on fuel economy. But, half the vehicle pushes half the air. Elio gets up to 84 MPG highway because of its unique design. Gas mileage is determined by how much wind resistance there is on a vehicle. Because Elio is half the width of a regular car, it gets twice the mileage.

It means saving billions of gallons of gas. And cuts down on billions of pounds of CO2 emissions.
At up to 84 MPG, you’ll be passing gas pumps all day long. Which also means you’ll be putting far less pollutants in the air. When we hit our sales targets, America could save almost 5 billion gallons of fuel per year, and CO2 emissions by about 90 billion pounds.
Oh, and speaking of passing gas, our in-house science geeks inform us that Elio will emit even less harmful emissions in the atmosphere per year than the average flatulent cow. Pretty impressive.

What Inspired Paul Elio to start this movement in the first place?

Paul set out with a clear mission:
To provide a fun-to-drive, super-economical personal transportation alternative, that’s affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly. We are committed to the American dream, creating American jobs, and bringing American automotive ingenuity to every vehicle we build. This is, and will remain our mission at Elio.

The vehicle is great for minivan and SUV owners who want an economical commuter car…for students looking to get around campus…for “clunker” owners who’d like an affordable new vehicle under warranty…for pure enthusiasts, who just want something new and fun. At $6,800, the Elio works for just about everyone.

THIS IS SOME NEW TECH.

             The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion.

The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion research car and its immersive user experience is an innovative perspective into the future of mobility.
Shared space in tomorrow's world.
In order to provide a foundation for the new autonomous F 015 Luxury in Motion research vehicle, an interdisciplinary team of experts from Mercedes-Benz has devised a future scenario that incorporates many different aspects of day-to-day mobility. Above and beyond its mobility function, this scenario perceives the motor car as a private retreat that additionally offers an important added value for society at large.

“Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society,” emphasises Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a mobile living space.”
Expressive forerunner of a mobility revolution.
The visionary research vehicle Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion was born, a vehicle which raises comfort and luxury to a new level by offering a maximum of space and a lounge character on the inside. Every facet of the F 015 Luxury in Motion is the utmost reflection of the Mercedes way of interpreting the terms “modern luxury”, emotion and intelligence.

This innovative four-seater is a forerunner of a mobility revolution, and this is immediately apparent from its futuristic appearance. Sensuousness and clarity, the core elements of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy, combine to create a unique, progressive aesthetic appeal.

A flowing silhouette and pronounced body shape.
The low-slung front end, smooth and streamlined roof line, flat front windscreen and road-hugging rear end give the F 015 Luxury in Motion an extended and decidedly dynamic silhouette. The vehicle body has a pronounced, attractive shape. The generously sized areas of outer skin fit snugly to the body.
The greenhouse is tapered sharply towards the rear, resulting in muscular shoulders which lend an eye-catching contour to the flanks. Together with the powerful looking side skirt, this gives the sides of the vehicle additional visual structure.
A luxury lounge providing maximum comfort.
Sensual, flowing transitions and warm, organic materials such as open-pore walnut wood, which has been shaped to a three-dimensional veneer, and extremely soft ice-white nappa leather contrast with clearly-defined metal and glass surfaces with a cool and technical feel. The transitions between organic, metal and synthetic materials have been designed using matrix graphics; and the flowing transitions deliver a new, unparalleled feeling of bounteous space. The light-coloured fine wood used for the floor, for example, flows almost imperceptibly into the cool Plexiglass of the side panels thanks to their unusual surface matrix.

The transition between the vehicle floor and the door panels also echoes the outer body shape in a characterful way. The pivotal feature of the innovative interior concept is the variable seating system, with four rotating lounge chairs that allow a face-to-face seat configuration.

The interior as a digital living space.
One core theme of the innovative interior concept is a continuous exchange of information between vehicle, passengers and the outside world. Six displays are installed to this end all around, tastefully mounted in the instrument panel and the rear and side walls, making the interior of the F 015 Luxury in Motion a digital living space – a perfect symbiosis of the virtual and the real world. Passengers are able to interact intuitively with the connected vehicle by means of gestures or by touching the high-resolution screens.
Visual and acoustic signals for greater safety.
The F 015 Luxury in Motion communicates with its surroundings both visually and acoustically. Large LED displays at the front and rear as well as a laser

Amazon.com Inc has won U.S. federal regulators' approval to test a delivery drone outdoors, as the e-commerce giant pursues its vision of speeding packages to customers through the air, while facing public concern over safety and privacy.

The experimental certificate applies to a particular drone design, and Amazon must obtain a new certification if it modifies the drone, making it difficult to adapt the model quickly in the field. Amazon's petition for permission indicated it has been testing several iterations of a drone design at an indoor facility in Seattle.

Amazon must keep flights below 120 metres and keep the drone in sight, according to the FAA. The company had asked for permission to fly at altitudes up to 150 metres.

The drone operators must have a private pilots' licence and current medical certification. Amazon must supply monthly data to the regulators.

The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

As part of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' plan to deliver packages, a program dubbed "Prime Air," the company is developing drones that can fly at speeds of 80 kilometres per hour, operate autonomously and sense and avoid objects. Amazon also is among those working with NASA on an air-traffic management system for drones.

Amazon sought permission from the FAA to test drones in outdoor areas near Seattle, where one of its research and development labs is working on the technology. The company has conducted test flights outside the United States, in countries with looser restrictions.

In February, the FAA proposed long-awaited rules to try to set U.S. guidelines for drones, addressing growing interest from both individual and corporations in using unmanned aerial vehicles. The draft rules still must undergo public comment and revision before becoming final, a process expected to take at least a year.

Elon Musk Says Self-Driving Tesla Cars Will Be in the U.S. by Summer

For many drivers who commute long distances, the prospect of owning a self-driving car — where a driver takes his hands off the wheel and feet off the gas — has been an elusive dream.

For many drivers who commute long distances, the prospect of owning a self- driving car — where a driver takes his hands off the wheel and feet off the gas — has been an elusive dream.

Took a big step in that direction when he announced that the maker of high-end electric cars would introduce autonomous technology by this summer. The technology would allow drivers to have their cars take control on what he called “major roads” like highways.

Mr. Musk said that a software update — not a repair performed by a mechanic — would give Tesla’s Model S sedans the ability to start driving themselves, at least part of the time, in a hands-free mode that the company refers to as autopilot.

But some industry experts said serious questions remain about whether such autonomous driving is actually legal and are skeptical that Model S owners who try to use autopilot would not run afoul of current regulations.

“If it’s fully autonomous, who’s responsible if there’s a mistake? The driver or the company who made it?” Mr. Tobias said. “I don’t see how Tesla’s going to clear the hurdles. They may have to go to each state legislative body and convince them, and that takes time.”

Mr. Musk also announced on Thursday that a software update within the next two weeks would give Tesla owners a new set of active safety features, including automatic emergency braking and blind-spot and side-collision warnings — features that are now available on a broad range of cars.

Also to be added are tools to help drivers monitor the status of charging stations and plot routes to ensure the ability to complete a trip without running out of battery power.

“It’s basically impossible to run out, unless you do so intentionally,” Mr. Musk said.

The move is intended to help reduce so-called range anxiety, the fear drivers have that their battery will run out, prompting them to constantly calculate distances and worry about being stranded.

The Model S sedan already has a range that starts at just over 200 miles for the base model. Other automakers have plans to match those numbers in the coming years. Nissan, whose Leaf currently has a range under 100 miles, has announced intentions for a 250-mile-range electric car, and Volkswagen has said that it will build a car that can go 300 miles on a charge by 2020.

General Motors unveiled its effort at a 200-mile range electric car, the Bolt, this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and in February said it would begin building the car in late 2016, with a target price of about $30,000, after zero-emissions tax breaks.
